It’s not every day that we get to witness ESPN Classic games unfold right in front of our eyes. As fans of the game, we half-heartedly watch each playoff game (in what ever sport) with the mindset that something special is going to happen. Of course, this happens maybe 4.5% of the time. Well, last night at Staples was one of those games that left everyone who watched with a feeling of utter exuberance…whether or not you were a Celtics fan.

Sam Perkins, the man known perennially around the NBA during his playing days for being the biggest pot-head in the league, has returned to his former team (the Pacers) as VP of Player Relations.

Vinny Del Negro, Terry Porter, and Michael Curry have all been made
head coaches in the NBA. Del Negro will coach the Chicago Bulls, who
have the first pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Terry Porter will coach
the run and gun Phoenix Suns, and Michael Curry will coach the Detroit
Pistons, a team who he used to play for. In all honestly, none of these
decisions make any sense what so ever.

Remembering the past is important, don’t get me wrong. I’m about the most nostalgic and respectful young sports fan you’ll find around. I mean who else can boast ownership of Tim Biakabutuka, Dan Majerle, and Detlef Schrempf jerseys in their wardrobe? I didn’t think so. But when it comes to the rebirth of the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, everyone needs to be a bit more cautious when comparing the new with the old.
