Push It to the Limit

Two notable athletes did some notable pushing and shoving last night, and it caused one of them to end up in jail. Let’s start in Washington Heights where last night Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley got into a heated altercation with a fan during a streetball game. Beasley was reppin’ for Team 914, a local Dyckman Park streetball squad who was facing off against Kevin Durant and his Team Nike. Naturally, the park was packed with a standing-room only crowd, with many fans climbing up fences and trees just to get a look at the action. Shit got real in the second half when Beasley started to chirp back at a group of fans who were heckling him. At one point, he was reported to have said “I get paid to do this!” Sick chirp, Mike. Anyways, Beasley decided to take his anger out on noted Dyckman frequenter Garland Quince, and approached Mr. Quince, placed a hand on his head, and shoved him. As Quince so eleqountly described it, “He just mushed me. He mushed me in my face.” Yo, G. Quince you just got mushed hard! The game was delayed for 10 minutes while security restrained a wild Beasley. Not everything went bad for the marijuana smokin’ Timberwolves forward as his team ended up beating KD’s squad 80-77. After the jump, check out what other athlete did some pushing to the wrong type of person and paid the price.  Read more of this post

Quote of the Day…and some more

“I don’t feel optimistic about the players’ willingness to engage in a serious way…We have absolutely the opposite take [on the situation].”

–A gem from the one and only David Stern. And this one deserves some commentary from yours truly. Read more of this post

The Big Analytical

Finally, ESPN lost one. The network that seems to be collecting every valuable talking head that’s out there couldn’t close the deal on the biggest one of all. Literally, the biggest. After much speculation and hearsay, Turner Broadcasting officially announced yesterday that Shaquille O’Neal would be joining Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley on the set of TV’s best pregame show. Now although the thought of the big guy going back and forth with Barkley is fantastic in theory, I have a few thoughts and questions about his decision.  Read more of this post

Lockout City, Part 2

By now everyone and their second cousin knows about the labor situations in both the NFL and NBA. The NFL has been mired in a lockout for 110 days now (although ESPN has made it feel like 110,000 days) and the NBA will most likely be in a lockout by this weekend. Barney is here to breakdown the talks and give you every and all update his trusted sources on the “inside” have given him. *Editor’s Note: Due to length, and the attention span of most of our readers, this post has been broken down into two parts. Part 1: NFL, Part 2: NBA*

Gold in Sight?

E7fa2bc554153617281f3cae1e546117getIf there were any questions about USA basketball not being prepared, I think they answered them on Friday when they demolished Canada 120-65 without LeBron James, who sat out due to a sprained ankle. Now, the USA National Team is in China finishing their preparation for the 2008 Olympics, where they hope to rebound from a Bronze Medal performance in Athens four years ago.
