2011 NBA Draft Breakdown

In his first post as a Creature, Big T deciphers the 2011 NBA Draft in a way that only he can. Beware readers, some of his New York biases may prove to be more overt than we had previously thought.

Breaking Down the Brackets: The Picks

4d6100b01a6c4fe682c38e7c7f662e2cAs everyone knows, this year’s bracket is WIDE open for anyone to take. This very well could be the year that all four number 1′s make the final four, but there’s enough depth in the field to make it so that known of the top seeds make it to San Antonio. With that said, the Creatures give you one man’s humble opinion as to how this year’s March Madness will shape out.

Breaking Down the Brackets: Most Intriguing Games

T1_chalmers_siThe brackets are out and are waiting to be busted. I have to say that this year the selection committee did an excellent job filling out their field of 65 and the 34 at-large bids. With the exception of one or two mistakes (Dayton and ASU in for Oregon and Arizona) this will be the most competitive and evenly placed tournament we’ve seen in a long time. With that said, C-LO and Barney are going to provide you with the most insightful knowledge on the tournament you’ll get around.

Still the Maddest

J.A. Adande’s recent article comparing NCAA March Madness to NBA “March Madness” basically forced me to write my first article in a week and defend my beloved college basketball. It’s clear Adande has a considerable amount of bias coming into the article. Let’s be honest, the guy gets paid to cover the NBA, who wouldn’t want to defend the sport they get paid to watch and write about. I’ll give credit to Adande for recognizing the hype that March Madness brings and appreciating it. As he says, “I love filling out my brackets…love getting off a plane in March and seeing people crowd around the airport bar TV sets, with the sound of high-tops squeaking on the court coming from the speakers.” But Adande makes a few points that clearly show his bias to the NBA and I feel obliged to defend the most wonderful time of the sporting year. March belongs to college basketball, not the NBA.

Championship Week Predictions

GregpaulusnothappyToday, Friday, and the Weekend ahead, provide College Basketball fans a small look into the future for what the NCAA Tournament will hold. And championship week is just exciting enough to require some predictions from yours truly. Some tickets to the big show have already been punched (Winthrop, Western Kentucky, and San Diego to name a few you might not have known), but others remain to be dealt out in the next 4 days. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough time to do every remaining conference, so I’m gonna treat you to the big five.

So You Think You Can Play?

177701b949a34e2fb9fb5337e82d4c42I know, lame title right? Come on its Monday afternoon, I’ve been reduced to copying ridiculous game show names for my blog, big deal! Anyway, I’ve noticed a trend in the College Basketball sphere recently. A lot of teams are losing games that they’ll need to win in a week’s time. This in turn, has indicated to me, who will be bounced early when the madness begins.

Thoughts Before the Madness

4d6c504e91684efe8eac444a5b228a61Championship week in College Basketball brings with it, a peak into the madness that will be approaching in a little less than two weeks time. I’ve found though, that the best way to pick your tourney favorites and upsets is to not follow what transpires on the days leading up to Selection Sunday, but rather to ride your gut instincts all the way to the bank.

Special K

Dukemikekrzyzewski3602

Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski became only the 6th coach in college basketball history to win 800 career games. After guiding his team to a 87-86 win over North Carolina State on Saturday afternoon, Coach K joined Bob Knight, Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp, Jim Phelan, and Eddie Sutton as the only Division I coaches to win 800. He trails only Sutton amongst active coaches in terms of career wins. The Creatures will pay their respects to Coach K’s legendary milestone by looking back on the coach’s fine career.

Sampson’s Unreasonsable Doubt

Kelvinsampson3_2Even the College Gameday guys who have undoubtedly seen it all, were mystified by  Kelvin Sampson’s situation. Caught by the NCAA again for having illegal phone conversations with his ecruits has put the Indiana coach’s back against a brick wall for the second time in his career.
