Excited But Skeptical

Today, I felt like I knew something about sports. Now, anyone that knows me understands that 90% of what is spewed from my mouth is contrived nonsense. Nonetheless, upon Brett Favre’s eminent arrival in the Big Apple, I was bombarded by texts and phone calls from friends and family members regarding the situation. Perhaps it’s because I call the fine city of New York home, and also because I do tend to watch some level of professional athletics from time to time, but in either case, I felt valued. I encourage you all to try this out, it’s a pretty kick-ass feeling. So, when faced with the pressing question of Favre’s partnership with Gang Green, I had to come up with a general statement to suppress the the dyer need for my opinion. (See title)…

A Plea to the Hall

340x In 1992, Hall of Fame broadcaster Red Barber said the following of this man pictured at left, "[He], along with Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson, is one of the two or three most important men in baseball history." Bob Costas observed, "There is no non-player more deserving of the Hall of Fame." In 2000, Hank Aaron endorsed this person’s selection, saying "[He] should be in the Hall of Fame if the players have to break down the doors to get him in." So who is this monumental figure that time and time again has fallen victim to the Basball Hall-of-Fame’s veteran’s committee?

Sex In The City

T1_sexson_allBy no means was Richie Sexson qualified to rake in that $50 million paycheck over four years that the Mariners threw his way. While perennrially, you can trust him to drive in 100 RBI, he’s never had more than 165 hits or batted above .296 in a season. His career homerun total of 305 over 11 seasons is substantially embarassing for a guy with his hieght and strength. And with over 1,3000 strikeouts and a .344 career OBP to his name, it’s become clear that he is not the MVP caliber player he once was. HOWEVA, his arrival in pinstripes is just what the Yankees need.

The Flaw-Star Game

But I suppose disasterous games call for absurd headlines. Around te 12th inning, I joked with Barney after Fox showed Bud Selig in a box at the Stadium, that the commish was so exhausted he was ready to call his second tie game. Hey, at least I would’ve gotten some more sleep last night.

Day of Solitude

On this day, July 16th, 2008, definitively the most uneventful day on the American sports calendar, we (and by we I mean me, because I know Barney didn’t have this on tap) look back at what it’s been like thus far in Creature Land with some of our best work from the past 17 month. I’d also like to take this time to truly express my love for all of you that have tuned in for even a single article. We love what we do and we’re happy to share our joy with ya’ll; so take it for what it’s worth because it’s highly likely that I’ll end up offending at least one of you in an upcoming piece.

Men’s Olympic Basketball Roster Released

Upon first glance, it didn’t make much sense to me. Going against the world with only three bigs, and just one true Center? Haven’t we learned anything? But upon further review and having delved deeper into the archives over here at the office, I’ve come to the conclusion that this call is still inane and debilitating.

Some Really Dirty Games

Beijing_olympic_08_3 When you combine the words "dirty" and "Olympics" immediately the notion of steroids and PED’s come to mind. But in the case of the ’08 games in China "dirty" is meant in the most literal of ways. The smog that covers the Beijing air where the world’s greatest athletes will be competing is unfair and unsafe.
