The Best Show on TV that You Aren’t Watching

July 17th marks the return of television’s finest hour of programming. Just 33 episodes into its existence, AMC’s Breaking Bad has left an indelible footprint in the pantheon of superb cable programming. Creator and show-runner Vince Gilligan’s masterpiece has joined an elite group that includes The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, The Shield, Damages, and Mad Men. This stunning portrait of a simple man gone corrupt to protect his family is both harrowing and terrifying. Perfect TV. Although you shouldn’t need it, here are my 10 reasons to start watching Breaking Bad. Read more of this post

2011 NBA Draft Breakdown

In his first post as a Creature, Big T deciphers the 2011 NBA Draft in a way that only he can. Beware readers, some of his New York biases may prove to be more overt than we had previously thought.

Photo of the Day

For the Creatures’ first Photo of the Day since our return, we honor the life of North Carolina State star Lorenzo Charles who tragically passed away in a bush crash yesterday in Raleigh, NC. Charles and the Wolfpack won the 1983 NCAA title on a desperation heave-turned-alley-oop that #43 caught.  The game’s enduring memory is that of Jimmy V running around the court desperately looking for someone to hug. Welcome Back

On a mid-March afternoon some four years ago, I turned to my friend Barney and presented him with a Post-It note. The tiny scrap of yellow paper read: “How do you feel about sports writing?” My plea to him was to bring the banter and arguments that we engaged in every day out of our dorm room and onto the interwebs.  Our platform for this master plan was the Bleacher Creatures, a blog that ranged from NFL season prognostications to a goofy picture of Alex Rodriguez drying a bat between his legs to a Simmons-esque running diary, which we to this day consider our finest hour. A sports blog in 2007, how original right? Sure it wasn’t the most innovative idea that cyberspace had ever seen, but we had something going for us that no one else did. We weren’t some 27 year-old hacks blogging from their parent’s living rooms. We were 17 year-old high school kids blogging from our parent’s living rooms. Read more of this post

2009 NBA Mock Draft

Here
is The Last Word's prediction of how the draft will break down tonight. I know I'll
get at least one pick right, and that would be Blake Griffin
heading to the dark side of LA.

Let the Madness Begin

Detroitfinal4logo

In approximately 29 minutes, the bracket will be announced for the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The bracket announcement is just the beginning of what is sure to be an amazing month of college basketball. In our minds, March Madness is the greatest sporting event of the year. We expect after all is said and done this year that our view will remain that same. Before the bracket is announced, though, Barney will give his predictions of what 64 teams will make it to the Big Dance, and which seeds each of these teams will occupy. Of course, this is just the beginning to what will be extensive coverage of this year's tournament, so we hope you will come along with us for what is sure to be a wild ride.

You Fired the Wrong Guy!

Sather533

You didn't think it would come to this. I didn't think it would come to his. But, people, it has come to this. Yes, the lack of content on the site was so upsetting that Barney Sr. decided to take matters into his own hands and vent his frustrations about the Broadway Blueshirts by commenting on the recent firing of Head Coach Tom Renney. You won't want to miss this people, so please continue reading.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Olé, Olé, Olé

Contributing blogger N.E.D. fills us in on everything Australian Open Mens Final:

I suppose I can smugly point out that Rafa was my pick to win the Aussie Open all along, even when it was fashionable to tip Murray or Federer in the build-up to the tournament. Even after Nadal's semifinal marathon with Verdasco the other night, I thought the title was his to lose. I've been convinced since last spring's clay court season that Nadal holds a virtually impregnable mental edge over Federer now: quite simply, he's in Roger's head. The best chance for a 14th Slam title for the world #2 entailed Verdasco or someone else eliminating Nadal before the final. Once a match gets into a critical stage against Nadal, I think deep down inside Roger just doesn't believe he can win. He knows his nemesis won't go away and unless he can summon near-perfect tennis to blow him off the court, eventually the Spaniard will prevail in a war of attrition.

Getting Defensive

T1_tebowfive

The BCS National Championship Game is finally here. After tonight, college football fans will have to wait almost 8 months for another college football game (unless you count the Senior Bowl). The culmination of yet another amazing college football season takes place tonight in Miami where the #2 Florida Gators and the #1 Oklahoma Sooners will lay it all on the line for a chance to be crowned National Champions of college football. Now we all know that Florida would not be where it is today if not for that man pictured above. But what you don't know is that Tebow won't be tonight's biggest difference maker. How, you ask? Read below.
