Intern Diaries: Weekend Warrior

Being an intern is like swimming in the Dead Sea: as hard as you try day after day, you just don’t do anything or get anywhere. But with years of interning experience under our collective belts, we here at the Creatures have picked up on some tricks of the trade.

There’s nothing quite like the weekend. It’s the two and a half day period of the week where you can forgot about all the shittiness that is your internship and just let loose. But as great as the weekend is, there’s no feeling as deflating as trudging back into your office the following Monday morning and facing that always inevitable question from your boss: how was your weekend?

Besides waking up, looking your boss in the eye and answering this question is the hardest part about being alive on a Monday.  Now I know how your weekend was.  It was blurry.  You went to three different pregames, stumbled your ass to the bar, decided you were too strong to wait in any line, got tossed by the bouncer and thrown into Patsy’s Pizzeria where you met that dragon you woke up next to this morning.  You spent the next two days in bed recovering.  You forgot what the sun looks like.  Now, if you can shake your boss’s hand and recount that story, you are more a man than I.

So here’s what you did this weekend.  On Friday, you saw Harry Potter.  It was magical.  Saturday morning, you and your buddies (buddies, not friends) played some pick-up softball in Central Park.  Afterwards, you checked out the Natural History museum.  You really liked the Whale exhibit. Your activities from the day left you exhausted, so you took your girlfriend of two years to a small Italian bistro in SoHo.  It was nice.

After that fine exhibition of showmanship, the rest of your week will be cake.  Fight on.
