A Viking Reunion?

Vikes114A reunion of one the most explosive pairings in NFL history appears to be possible. Randy Moss called his former QB pal Daunte Culpepper last night to discuss the opportunity of the two joining forces again for whatever team would be interested in their services. Culpepper’s value remains unknown, but if we learned nothing else from the Pats 16-0 season, its that when he wants to be, Randy Moss is the best receiver in professional football.

The likelihood of this partnership seems doubtful at best. I’m not sure that there is a team in the league in search of a #1 guy at both the QB and WR positions, and if there is, I don’t think they’ll be willing to spend the big bucks required to bring both of these guys in. Too much of a risk at both spots for potential disaster. But I’ll indulge myself anyway, and pontificate over the possible connection of Moss and Culpepper again.

In the prime of their partnership between 2000 and 2004, the two hooked up for 62 TDS and just over 6,400 yards of total offense. One can certainly look at those stats and assume that those glory years have passed. But just look at what Moss accomplished this year as a Patriot. On a team that really was, well, a team, Moss set the single season TD mark for a Wideout alongside the best QB in the game. Now, by no means is Culpepper what he used to be, but how much has the guy lost in 4 seasons? All I’m saying is that the pairing of the two, given the right conditions in the locker room, could lead to some very exciting times for a team in need of a startup.
