The Joker Gets the Best of Feds

The loss was good for the dogs of the sport. It was good for King. And most importantly, it was good for Professional Tennis. Novak Djokovic’s triumph over Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the Aussie Open a few days ago made the entire world realize that yes, despite popular belief, Federer is human after all.
This match, which went astonishingly in straight sets, proved to all of Tennis (maybe Roddick most notably) that the master of their domain could go down. This loss sends a message to the tour that competition is out their, and this is a great thing for the sport.
Perhaps the story that is most lost in this scenario though, is the impact that the defeat will have on Federer himself. This was an ego check, 100%. This lets him know that there are players out there gunning for him, and that desperately want what he has. This in turn, will create for some very exciting Tennis this year, and I personally cannot wait. "I’ve created a monster, so I know I need to always win every
tournament," Federer said referring to his 10 straight Grand Slam
finals appearances. A monster indeed, but don’t look for this to completely throw Feds off his game. It should only fuel the competitive fire that runs through his blood.
