As the saying goes, this time of the year is “the most wonderful time of the year.” And that’s not only because of Santa Claus, Hanukkah Harry, and the Kwanzaa gift giver. Everyone knows that it is because the slew of bowl games that invade the airwaves and have college football fans salivating. And even though we haven’t yet gotten into the thick of the bowl season (that comes tomorrow and on New Years Day), the games so far have not disappointed. From the thrilling game that Purdue and Central Michigan put on in the Motor City Bowl to the craziness we saw in the Pacific Life Holiday (Texas vs. Arizona State), this bowl season has yet again proved to be special. But what all college football fans look forward to the most are the BCS bowl games- the best of the best squaring off in what normally are the best games. *NOTE: INSTEAD OF POSTING ALL OF MY PICKS AT ONCE, I WILL POST THEM TWO AT A TIME, STARTING WITH THE ROSE BOWL AND SUGAR BOWL, THEN THE FIESTA AND ORANGE, AND FINISHING WITH THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP*

Time to Gloat/Forget

As is tradition at this point, the Creatures make preseason predictions for each major sports season. These include, for the most part, divisional breakdowns, player analysis, and playoff and awards foresight. Now that the NFL regular season is over for the most part (meaning I know if my predictions came true or not) I can now proudly show the world that I (with the help of Grant Tomashoff) correctly picked the Washington Redskins to make the playoffs!

Thought of the Day

1e52a2da0d944daea7fbdaacf3505217Because I was spending my last day in Toronto, I was able to actually see Saturday night football on Canada’s version of the World Wide Leader, TSN, because of course Time Warner Cable doesn’t pick up the NFL Network. Anyway, I was really impressed by the Giants, right up until the 3rd Quarter when they completely bent over and took it from Brady and Co. You all know how strong our both Barney and my dislike is for the Pats, but 16-0 is impressive nonetheless. Also, congrats to Brady and Moss for setting the records for passing and receiving TDs in a season.

A Night at the A.C.C.

8f139c2e97f6482fb925602267e757a9As I mentioned yesterday, last night was spent at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. After a week long stay visiting family in the area, I was relieved to be taking in some sporting action while in the city. As it happened, my uncle had purchased 6 tickets for the Leafs-Rangers for some of my family and I. We had great seats, and what transpired was great for me to watch.

Thought of the Day

Nhl_g_cdrury_412 In the wise words of Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser, YA BOI C-LO is off to the Rangers-Leafs game in Toronto tonight. Should be an excellent adventure to post about at a later date so stay tuned for that. While rooting for the Blue tonight I’m hoping not to get beer dumped on me by a bunch of crazy Canadians. Pray for me.

Wow, He Is Really Bad (And I’m Not Only Talking about Manning)

At around 12:45 on Saturday April 24th, 2004, New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi threw his franchise into what would be years of turmoil and suffering. With the fate of three different future NFL quarterback’s in his hands– Ole Miss’s Eli Manning, North Carolina State’s Philip Rivers and Miami of Ohio’s Ben Roethlisberger— Accorsi decided to make Manning his franchise quarterback, instead of trading for Roethlisberger (a deal that was close to being completed) or keeping Rivers. In doing so, Accorsi not only lost out on two better quarterbacks, but also gave up a draft pick that proved to be extremely valuable the next year. Until Manning is able to deliver a playoff win to the championship-starved Big Blue fans, Accorsi’s draft-day maneuver will remain one of the most underrated idiotic trades of all time.

The Best Movie of the Year

No_country_for_old_menSo here’s the thing. I’ve been really focused on sports recently, and how could I not be. So I haven’t really had time to discuss the slew of movies that I’ve seen over the past two weeks or so. So this is a belated post to say the least. And don’t think I’m jumping on any critical bandwagons right here, this is what I’ve thought since seeing No Country back a couple weeks now.

Wow, He’s Really Bad

051113_goldberg_manning_vmed4pwidecAll you need to do is ask a Giants fan how they feel about their QB. Really, I implore you, if you have a Big Blue fan in your mental Rolodex, call them up and ask them about Eli Manning and what he’s done for their club this year. Careful though, cover your ears upon a response. Granted, the Giants receivers have the hands of Orlando Jones in the Replacements, but Manning has not exactly helped out this season.
