The Patriots won the battle of the undefeateds, and head into their bye week 9-0 after a 24-20 win over the previously 7-0 Colts. Not only did this spectacular game occur, but two NFL records work broken. Antonio Cromartie broke the record for longest touchdown return as he returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a touchdown against the Vikings. And in that same game, rookie running back Adrian Peterson rushed for a NFL and rookie record of 296 yards. Quite a week in the NFL. Now onto the Stars of the Week.
QB: Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Back-to-back weeks that Brees has stolen this spot from Tom Brady. He led the Saints to their 4th straight win after an 0-4 start. He threw for 445 yards and 3 touchdowns as New Orleans beat Jacksonville 41-24.
RB: Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
Over 1000 yards through 8 games? That in itself is record breaking, yet alone 296 yards in a game (new NFL record). And all of this is being done by a rookie! Peterson is the best running back in the league right now. Along with his 296 rushing yards on 30 carries, Adrian reached the endzone three times.
WR: Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboys
It hurts me to give this award to T.O., but he deserves it after eating up his old teammates for 174 yards on 10 catches including a touchdown grab in a huge 38-17 win on the road against the Eagles.
Defense: James Harrison, Pittsburgh Steelers
Harrison dominated on Monday Night, recording 10 tackles, 3.5 sacks, while forcing 2 fumbles and intercepting one pass as the Steelers destroyed the Ravens 38-7.
Other News:
-The Green Bay Packers improved to 7-1 as Brett Favre hooked up with Greg Jennings for both of his touchdown passes in the win over the Chiefs, 33-22.
-The Buffalo Bills are 4-4, shocking. Lee Evans is finally getting his game back, as he had a huge week, catching 9 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown in the win over the Bengals 33-21. The Bengals are now 2-6, and their season looks to be over.
-The Browns are 5-3! Yes, the Browns are 5-3. Derek Anderson continues his Pro Bowl type play as he led the Browns to a 33-30 overtime win over the Seahawks.
-The Lions destroyed the Broncos 44-7, and they improve to 6-2. These last four winning teams are the biggest successful surprises in the NFL this season.
-The Redskins got a huge win on the road against the Jets in overtime, 23-20. The Redskins are now 5-3, while the Jets drop to a horrible 1-8.
-The Titans are flying onto the public’s radar, as they are now 6-2. They haven’t been winning in dramatic ways, but Vince Young seems to find ways to get it done each week. They are currently in the wild card lead in the AFC.
-The Buccaneers improved to 5-4 with a 17-10 win over the Cardinals. Jeff Garcia is doing exactly what he did in Philly with less pieces and with a lot of injuries in Tampa Bay.
-The Texans beat the Raiders 24-17 in a meaningless game.
Week 10 What-To-Watch:
1) Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants
The Giants are coming off of their bye week at 6-2, all 6 wins coming on their current win streak after an 0-2 start. Meanwhile, Dallas is 7-1 coming off of a huge win on the road Sunday Night in Philly. This should be a great divisional matchup.
2) Indianapolis Colts vs. San Diego Chargers
The Colts are coming off a tough loss to the Patriots, while the Chargers were embarrassed by Adrian Peterson. Both teams should come out firing and this should be a great game on Sunday Night.
3) Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers
The Packers are tied in first place in the NFC at 7-1, and look to be the first team to shut down Adrian Peterson in his record-breaking rookie season.
