A Thought Before the Big Game

I never get to tap into my roots of  our site with "thought of the days" any more, so I figured what a better time than now to douse the proverbial reader with my ideas on the Packers-’Boys game before the kickoff in about, well, 2 minutes ago. I’ll be brief.

North Carolina State’s Courtney Fells falls on top of Michigan State’s Goran Suton during the second half of their game in East Lansing, MI. The game was played as part of the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Behind Suton’s 16 points and 12 rebounds Michigan State won, 81-58. Besides the Spartans, only two other teams from the Big Ten won their games against ACC opponents and the ACC won the overall challenge again. The ACC has never lost the challenge since its inception in 1999. (AP Photo/Al Goldis)

The Tuesday Evening Punter

06adeb25a33180a44cdc79b82e7c7122getToday was a solemn day in the NFL. Sean Taylor was shot in his leg yesterday at his home in Florida, during an alleged robbery. The bullet hit an artery, and Taylor died earlier today. I send my regards out to Sean, his family, and the Redskins, and wish them luck in dealing with this tragic loss. Taylor was having a career year, with a high of 5 interceptions. R.I.P.

Daniel Makes a Statement, But is it Loud Enough?

294afc45ff6a4730a66c9b6c9f866159The border beatdown that Mizzou dropped on Kansas really provided me a first look at the two star Quarterbacks: Chase Daniel and Todd Reesing. Now, I knew coming into this game, that both of these teams live and die by their leading men, and that was never more evident than the way that Daniel performed on the big stage.

Invincible No More

20ffeb55ffc849b9b4f78420126b8ed0The Pats can thank their lucky stars for Asante Samuel and Wes Welker, because without these two, a perfect season would’ve been a distant dream. Not that it really matters though considering New England clinched the AFC East with an earlier Buffalo loss. But you know that every other team that Patriots have to face the rest of the way, are about five notches less scared.

To Recap the Year of Boston

Boston
After what can largely be viewed as the year of sports for the city of Boston, I’m forced to reprint an article I wrote during the summer about the five best sports cities in America. The criteria was very straight forward. It didn’t matter how great your fans were, or the atmosphere in the city itself. Wins and loses are what I looked at, and as it turned out, the city I hate most came out on top. I can already see Barney’s face when he reads this. Keep in mind that I wrote this in August and so the information relates accordingly.

Why would Barney be so excited on this day after Thanksgiving? Well, it’s not because of the  “Black Friday” sales. And it is definitely not because of the Forensic Files marathon on CourtTV. No, it’s Rivalry Week in college football. Rivalry week, an event that even God watches himself. An event that the NFL Network dedicates 1 hour to preview the games. An event that John Madden describes as: “Well, rivalry week is when a bunch of the rivals, which are schools that become rivals because they disagree with each other, get together and play a game of football, and football is a game that is played with a ball and some men on a field that is 120 yards long, if you include the endzones which some people don’t because…” You get the picture (note that wasn’t an actual quote- John Madden would probably say something much stupider than that).
