Thoughts and Links

Xin_0505043108565651809316I know ya’ll were wondering what AK had to say about the Kobe situation over in LA LA Land. Or maybe you were curious if I thought the Rockies had a shot in hell at winning the World Series (they don’t). Or perhaps you found yourself wondering what I felt about the current state of the Yankees, Knicks, and Jets. Well guess what? You’ll receive all that and more in this mass vent of what’s sprilling around in my head.

Let’s kick it off with the Kobe talk…I was talking to my cousin Big Moshe on the phone today, and through the connections he has with the Lakers’ organization, he made it quite clear that not only will 24 be gone before the seasons starts, but he’ll likely be sporting a new area code in less than two weeks. So, at this point, the question is no longer "if", but "where". Let’s see…possible locations for Byrant include only big market clubs with legit title shots and star players to throw away. (Damn I hate the Knicks). These locations include: Chicago, Phoenix, Dallas, and Washington. The latter would most likely only be involved if a three team fiasco were to occur. Possible scenarios include Kobe to the Bulls for Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, and a slew of role guys. Chicago has also made it quite clear that they have no intention of parting ways with Luol Deng, so that could kill the deal before talks even began. "Deuce Cuatro" to the Suns would most likely look like him for Amare straight up (probably the best deal the Lakers will see, considering they’re looking at something like 30 cents on the dollar for Bryant right now). Kobe for Dirk has also been swirling around the league. I think in the end, Los Angeles will get screwed by the Bulls and be forced to except an inordinate amount of role guys that don’t fit Phil’s triangle. But we shall see.

What else can be said about the Rockies that my colleague Danny didn’t discuss yesterday? Oh yeah, the fact they have absolutely "0" chance of winning the Series. 21 of 22 to me means absolutely jack when you’re playing against the NL. I’d like to see these "hot" bats take down the likes of C.C. "I couldn’t fit in a bathe" Sabathia and Fausto "I love when midges crawl all over me " Carmona, who, in all likelihood, they’ll face sometime next week (knock on wood). Look, I’m glad that these guys are getting some love from America and the media. Really, good for them. But that doesn’t change the fact that when they step into the Jake for that first game, it’ll be a whole ‘nother atmosphere. Something I don’t think Colorado will be ready for.

The Yankees need to clean house. Plain and simple. This starts with the departure of Joe Torre and progresses from there. Gator Guidry should be next in line to go, followed by Mo, Jorge, and Roger. I really wish we could keep Andy, but I just don’t see him sticking around sans Joe and Rocket. Build our farm system, and stop sending away our youth for overpriced veterans (cough Bobby Abreu). That’s all that needs to be said.

The Jets have simply been a disgrace to their fans this season. A 1-5 start, accompanied with a 3rd place spot in the lowly AFC East, only because the Dolphins are so freaking bad. Their defense looks like their jogging in coverage. The O-line gives out after two seconds of blocking. This results in Chad having to play more and more hurt each week. Thomas Jones finally had a solid line last week, but guess what? We still lost. Just despicable.

And the Knicks…wow…what can be said? To deter the news of his court case, Isiah decided it would be in the best interest of the team to bring back Allan Houston. That’s right, the same Allan Houston that was paid $100+ million for essentially three average years of service. He joins a roster filled with egotistical maniacs, all with "shoot-first" mentalities. Great job Zeke. Really, A+ work. The one thing no one can deny though is Thomas’ ability to fully distract the media from his indiscretions.

On to the links I found this week…

Everyone needs to read this E-Ticket from ESPN. I usually avoid them because of their sappiness and excessive length, but this one is truly special.

You really should never miss an opportunity to make fun of the Sports Guy.

In case you missed it, Barney put out a solid piece this week about the direction of the Yankees.

We’re always with leather.

It made me think of Space Jam which is always a good thing.

Kobe is staying put in LaLa Land. There isnt a single player in the NBA that can match Kobe. The Lakers still want to win but if they trade Kobe they should look the rebuild because the players they get in return are not going to help. Trading Kobe will just put this team in a bigger hole than they already are.

The point though Zack, is that the Lakers don’t have a choice in the matter. Bryant will sit if he’s not dealt. It’s pretty obvious that no one can match the physical gifts as a player that 24 has, but that seems arbitrary at this point. He’s gone no matter what.
