Who do we want? Girardi. Who are we gonna get? Mattingly. This seemed to be the catch-and-shoot that transpired between my friends and I during the Yankees’ search for a manager over the past week. I was sure we’d end up with Don, it was my stone-cold lead-pipe lock. I was certain we’d get the guy who’d never managed a professional game in his life, the guy who had no clue how to handle pitchers, manage a ‘pen, or judge the emotions of his players. Instead, we got all of that and more with Girardi, and I couldn’t be happier.

This is by far the best division in the entire NBA, and this season it will have four of the five teams in the playoffs. The race for first in the division will be close, and could come down to the last week if Houston and San Antonio compete as well as they are expected to. Dallas should sneak away with the division title though.

Has Alex Rodriguez become larger than the game itself? It sure seems that way after (the former) #13 told the Yankees that what they were offering (something in the $27 million per year range) wasn’t quite adequate for the slugger.

The Nuggets and Jazz will be the only two teams in the Northwest that are possible contenders. But as far as I see it, a healthy Kenyon Martin is all Denver need take the division this season.

We at the Creatures talk so much sports (and when I say so much I really mean it consumes most of our conversations) so C-LO decided to switch gears and hand out his mid-TV season report card on this rainy Saturday.

The Suns are my favorite to win the NBA Finals this year, and this will be an easy task when the second best team in the their division this year is Golden State Warriors.
